I could barely make out the shape looming before me through the misty cool air. Facing off against each other as the sun slowly descended into gloomy dusk, a creepy and still silence filing our space. We stood atop a circular stone and I secured my stance trying to glean any information about my ominous opponent. My body chilled and damp as I clutched the katana firmly in my grip. The figure was muscular, a large hairy beard wrapped his face making it harder to see the man underneath. His cloak covered his steel armor as he moved gracefully into form…awaiting my next move. My heart started to race as I realized I could not see him well enough through the mist to determine weight or actual size. I heard Sensei’s voice echo around me, “Remember…focus on senses- not your sight.”

I took a deep breath and closed my eyes…letting in the silence of sound, the hint of lavender in the air mixed with the strangers’ husky scent, the wind slightly brushing the hair off my neck. I felt the peace...it was time…I knew he was coming before I opened my eyes and dodged his blade by a hairs breadth…
